David Pier, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley was honored last week with the Spark Plug Award during the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Pacific Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. The Spark Plug Award is presented to a chief professional officer/executive director in the Pacific Region who has affected positive impact for their organization. These professionals have demonstrated exceptional determination, tenacity, spark and leadership, and have evidenced significant improvements in their Club’s operations.

Under Pier’s leadership since 2007, the Boys & Girls Club has grown from three to five locations in Sonoma Valley, including the Maxwell Clubhouse, Sassarini, Flowery and Dunbar Elementary Schools and Altimira Middle School.   Pier also coordinated the instillation of solar panels at the Maxwell Clubhouse.  The Club’s teen membership population has grown significantly over the past two years, with the inception of the  College Bound  program which currently has 76 teens enrolled.
