New principal at Sassarini

The interim principal at Sassarini Elementary School for the remainder of the school year is Kristin Gornick, a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles and who also earned a Master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

The current principal, Leticia Bhatia, is on maternity leave.

“We are thrilled to have a professional of Kris’ caliber join our education team in the Valley,” said District Superintendent Louann Carlomagno. “She will be an excellent addition to the team of learning professionals at Sassarini School.”

Gornick was selected from a group of well-qualified candidates, Carlomagno said. Representative Sassarini teachers, classified staff and parents were involved in the initial interview process.

Gornick lives in the Los Angeles area and has already begun making arrangements to move to the Sonoma area. She should be on the job by mid-October. She joined the Sassarini staff on campus last Thursday and Friday, meeting staff and students, and familiarizing herself with the school community and the school district.

Gornick began her career as an English teacher. She then served as an assistant principal and principal at the middle school level in school communities that Carlomagno said were very similar to Sassarini.
