Bronx is up, Battery's down

In “On the Town,” sailors Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly spend a 24-hour shore leave in New York seeing the sights, belting out a few memorable tunes (“New York, New York”) and romancing two dishy dames. The 1949 film was based on the 1944 musical written by Leonard Bernstein.

Kelly directed the dance sequences, including a few signature al fresco numbers as intricately long and vivacious as the legs of co-star Ann Miller. The film plays the Sebastiani Theatre on Monday, March 11, 7 p.m. and Wednesday, March 13 at 1 p.m. $8. 996.9756. Sebastianitheatre.com.
