Consignment store owner jailed for fraud

Dwayne Robert Kershner kept cash generated by his Sonoma consignment store, paid clients with bogus checks and stole $15,000 of merchandise after closing Front Door Antiques, according to police reports.

Kershner, 51, was arrested Wednesday at his home in the Seven Flags Mobile Home Park.

When the business in the Sonoma Marketplace shopping center suddenly closed at the end of May, several consignment clients told the Sonoma Police Department they were never paid for their items, or they were paid with bad checks. 



Kershner was charged with passing bad checks, fiduciary elder abuse, financial fraud, and, when contacted by police, resisting arrest and possession of methamphetamine.

Numerous antique items were discovered at his Kerhner’s residence and storage units. Police estimate the value at $15,000. Many of the pieces will be returned to their proper owner, Sgt. Spencer Crum said.
