Woman attacked at Sonoma Valley Regional Park

Posted on September 23, 2013 by Sonoma Valley Sun

A 60-year-old woman said she was attacked by a dog owner while walking her own dog Sunday morning on the Sonoma Valley Regional Park trail in Glen Ellen. After the dogs got in a brief fight, the male suspect crossed his dog’s leash around the woman’s neck and ripped her glasses off.

According to the sheriff’s report, she was able to fight off the attacker, and threatened to take a photo of him with her cell phone camera. The suspect then yanked the phone out of her hands and threw it into a trailside lake.

He continued screaming at her and kicked her dog several times before he took off running toward Arnold Dr., the woman said.

The victim eventually flagged down another hiker who called the Sheriff’s Office for help.

The suspect was described as a white male adult, about 50 years old, 6’” to 6′-2″ tall and thin with gray hair and a brown and gray beard. He was wearing a red baseball cap, a blue vest and shorts with a fanny pack. He was walking a liver and white Australian Shepherd dog.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office at 565-2121.
