A tip of the hat

Judy Baker, coordinator of the Big Hat contest for the upcoming Horses, Hats and Heroes event, gets ready for the May 2 event.

“Any individual, business, team or non-profit group can enter,” Baker said. “This is a chance to show off your creativity, support your community, and have some fun.”

Entry fee is $10 per hat, online You can sign up and pay online or mailed with completed entry form to: Horses, Hats and Heroes, P.O. Box 111, Sonoma CA 95476, Attn: BIG HAT.

Entries will be on display at the Horses, Hats and Heroes fundraiser Saturday, May 2, at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First Street West, Sonoma, 6–10 p.m.

Attendees will cast ballots for their favorite entries. Winners will be announced and awarded at the event.

The proceeds of this event will benefit the heroes at the Ceres Project and local veterans. Horses, Hats and Heroes is a collaboration between the Sonoma Parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West and American Legion Jack London Post #489.

In addition to the Big Hat Contest, there will be dancing to Tommy Thomsen and his Western Swing Band, a special guest appearance by Vox Populi, “the best gumbo west of the Mississippi,” dancing, games of chance, and a silent auction.
