Did you know that 33% of food is not consumed? That includes the food you don’t finish when you dine out. By dining out on April 29, you can help end world hunger.

Sonoma based non-profit, End World Hunger, is organizing their first restaurant campaign. The campaign, which takes place on Hunger Awareness Day on April 29, has local restaurants donating a portion of their gross profits from that day to End World Hunger who will then distribute the monies to support One Acre Fund and Gardens for Health, both are East Africa-based non-profits that combat malnutrition and support local farmers.

Eat out at any of these restaurants on April 29 and support the cause:

  • Breakaway Cafe, 19101 Sonoma Hwy, Sonoma; 996-5949
  • Hopmonk Tavern, 619 Broadway, Sonoma; 935-9100
  • Picazo Cafe, 19100 Arnold Dr, Sonoma; 931-4377
  • The Red Grape, 529 1st St W, Sonoma; 996-4103
  • Saddles Steakhouse, 29 E. MacArthur St, Sonoma; 933-3191
  • Schellville Grill, 22900 Broadway, Sonoma; 996-5151
  • Taste of the Himalayas, 464 1st St E, Sonoma; 996-1161

End World Hunger’s mission is to educate and inspire people to support grass roots projects that work with farmers and farm families to feed themselves and their communities in food vulnerable countries. The organization’s vision is to eradicate world hunger by 2030, which is a vision reflected by the United Nations who set that goal in their Millennium Declaration in 2001.

We live in a plentiful county with so much amazing food. End World Hunger hopes that participating diners will take time to reflect on the privilege we have to dine out when folks on the other side of the planet may not have enough food to support their family day to day. A few facts about world hunger:

  • 72% of the world’s impoverished families grow their own food
  • 60% of people who are hungry in the world are women
  • 98% of hungry people live in developing countries

Check out other restaurants in the county who are participating, some are also participating in other days, here.
