Sonoma’s Moldovan Academy children raised $1,283.83 for earthquake relief in Nepal. The school donated an additional $350 on behalf of the teachers as Kathleen Moldovan and the school rallied behind parent Sarah Pinkin, a board member of the Ama Foundation. Pinkin’s aunt founded the nonprofit, an orphanage near Kathmandu 12 years ago. It has about 50 kids currently, Pinkin explained, “though not all are orphaned — many of the parents have severe disabilities, are too poor to feed their children or the kids were severely neglected or abused.”

The children are safe and the reinforced structure is intact after the April 15 quake, she said, but “the villages around them are decimated, so they have become a pinnacle of aid for their area.  The kids are all helping to package and deliver food, clothes and clean water to the outlying villages.” Her aunt and other on-site agencies are working closely with authorities to provide and relief. “Because of the lack of infrastructure in the country and government, things are pretty chaotic and they need all the help they can get!”

  1. Yeah, Moldovan kids and teachers! So proud of my granddaughters, Kate and Taylor, for participating so well. Happy to send them a contribution for remembering all the people in Nepal who need our prayers and support.
    Love, Nana Aurie
