Project roadway

IMG_0273What do you do when chaos arrives at your doorstep in the form of PG&E trucks, hot asphalt, a sea of orange cones and a chorus of jackhammers? “We decided to embrace the situation and make it into a piece of art,” said Kaeti Bailie, owner of Artifax on Sonoma Plaza.

Using the recent street improvement project as inspiration, she decked out the store’s front window in chartreuse and orange workman’s vests, and draped them with Italian jewelry. “It’s fun, and fanciful and lifts everyone’s spirits.”

Bailie said she was impressed with how quickly the crews worked, and how much they tried to accommodate the businesses on the Square.  “PG&E has been great to us,” she said. “They loaned us a hardhat, vests and some road signs for our window, and crew member Dawndee Webster even gave up her lunch hour to pose in Angela Caputi jewelry in front of our window.”
