Bully for Boerum
We welcome the newest member of the Sonoma Valley Health Care District board, Bill Boerum. Selected Monday night by the four sitting directors, Boerum knows full well the situation he’s walking into, having been a leader in the ‘No on C’ campaign last spring (opposing the Leveroni site) and the ‘Yes on B’ campaign that concluded successfully this month (supporting the parcel tax).
We, too, have been following this issue with great interest for the last few years, and we appreciate the hard work that many folks have put in, especially including Boerum, for the good of the community, with no self-interest. More hard work of that type is ahead, we expect.
As readers know, we’re anxious for the recommendations of the Sonoma Valley Health Care Coalition to be presented publicly, so that the hospital board has full information from which to work. That presentation date has been pushed back several times, principally to let the community concentrate on the Measure B parcel tax, but we hope that the hospital board calls soon for that presentation.
The coalition has shown patient leadership, under the able Steve Pease and Bob Edwards, and the hospital board now has to show similar leadership, as it takes the coalition’s recommendations and knits together a final proposal that can garner the support of the community. As we have all along, we have faith that the community will pull together and that we will continue to have a local hospital.
Saturday Forecast: Sunny!
We are looking forward to the community awards celebration on Saturday evening. This second year of the Sunnys promises to be fun and entertaining, as we honor the “Best of …” winners, selected by Sun readers in some 56 categories, some silly, some serious. Congratulations to all winners and to all who received votes – you help make Sonoma the wonderful place it is.

These are leaders in Sonoma Valley, whether as models of youth service, as models of environmentally sound business, or as models of self-sacrifice for the good of our community. May fortune continue to shine brightly on their efforts.
