Passed away quietly and peacefully at home in Sonoma.
ALIOTO, Nina Joann, nee’ Antonina Giovanna Tarantino, 82, our sweet and loving mother, passed away quietly and peacefully at home in Sonoma on October 1, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. Nina was born on November 14, 1924 in Martinez to Joseph and Maria Tarantino. Her Kind loving spirit touched all those who knew her. During her years growing up in San Francisco, as well as her later retirement years in Sonoma, she participated in many social clubs and activities and made many dear friends. Nina loved the simple gifts of life, gathering the family together to enjoy her delicious Sicilian cooking and listening and dancing to the music of the 1940’s. She will always be remembered for her caring and compassionate nature and her deep love of children.
Nina was the devoted wife of the late Peter Francis Alioto; mother of Joann Alioto Burman, Theresa Alioto Tomasello, Elena Alioto and Maria Alioto; cherished mother-in-law of Robert Burman and Robert Tomasello; beloved grandmother of Peter (Nodira), Angelo, Marisa, Viviana, Lisa (Tyler), Christie (Jeff); great grandmother of Javlon and Bennett. She is also survived by her brothers Peter Tarantino and Thomas Tarantino and sisters-in-law Rose Tarantino, Elise Tarantino, Francesca Alioto and Pauline Alioto.
A Memorial Mass was held at noon, on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at St. Francis Solano Church, 300 West Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476. A private inurnment will take place at Mountain Cemetery in Sonoma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Nina’s honor be made to the Buckelew Programs, Sonoma Branch, 914 Mission Avenue, San Rafael, CA 94901; or to the children’s charity of your choice.
