Medicinal pot hearing set for November

The Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Commission will hold a public hearing Nov. 14 on a proposed medical marijuana dispensary just outside city limits at 19445 Riverside Drive.
Creekside Medicinal Organics, owned by Northbay Wellness Clinic, has submitted a permit application to the county to operate the dispensary in the former Nicholas Turkey facility. Creekside held a public information session last night at the proposed site.
The citizens advisory commission had scheduled a public hearing on the Creekside application for that date, which was its regular meeting time (fourth Wednesday of the month). The Commission last week delayed that hearing by three weeks, in order to avoid the scheduling conflict.
It will now consider the marijuana dispensary proposal on Wednesday, November 14. That meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Sonoma Fire Station, located at 630 Second St. West.

July 4th fireworks in jeopardy

Sonoma’s 30-year-old July 4th fireworks display could fizzle if more money is not found for the popular event.
The fireworks are put on by the Sonoma Volunteer Firefighters Association and are funded through donations—and that’s the problem.
The association says it is $10,000 short of the $40,000 needed to stage the event. Of the $40,000, half goes to the fireworks and the other half for insurance, state fees and the mailing cost association with the solicitation of donations.

City manager finalists to be interviewed today

The Sonoma City Council today is interviewing six finalists for City Manager.
The finalists, who will be interviewed during a day-long process at City Hall, have been winnowed from a candidate pool of 56, said City Manager Mike Fuson, who announced his retirement in May.
Fuson said a new city manager is likely to be named by the middle of November.
All the finalist are from Northern California and are currently employed in key local government positions, said Fuson. Most are women, according to sources close to the process.
