A 17-year-old El Verano youth was cited for resisting arrest in connection with a July 5 assault whose victim declined to press charges.
An officer on patrol around 9:30 p.m. near West Spain Street heard angry yelling and saw a number of youths fighting in First Street West, police Sgt. Dave Thompson said Friday. Two ran when they saw the officer, and two others did the same after the officer pulled them off their teenage victim. A fifth continued to hit and kick the victim then tried to flee several times but the officer knocked him down, eventually subduing him with three flashlight strikes to the collarbone.
The victim, whose name and age were not disclosed, said he had been walking through the Casa Grande parking lot behind Sonoma Barracks when the five surrounded him and accused him of fighting with a friend of theirs. The victim disputed his attackers’ claim but did not press charges.
No charges filed in assault
