Green Music Festival debuts

The maiden voyage of the Sonoma Valley Green Music Festival, held Saturday, Aug. 9 at Depot Park, went off without a hitch – and with a good time had by the thousands that attended during the course of the day.

The event, a benefit for Mother to Mother, an organization that benefits mothers and their children in transition, kicked off the day at noon with local musicians and local cuisine. Attendees had the chance to enjoy organic stone-oven baked pizza, Thai and Italian food, organic juice smoothies, brownies, or get a henna tattoo and even have a massage. Also available was information on solar energy, water conservation and composting. The event was billed ‘Green,’ as the emphasis was on sustainability and recycling, with the Marin Conservation Corps on hand to make sure waste got put into the proper containers.

Reggae music filled the air as the event wound down at 8 p.m. Event producer Emmy Kaplan of NomaGirl Events hopes to make the event an annual one and, judging by the turn-out, it shouldn’t be a problem.
