The Kiwanis of Sonoma Plaza and the Sonoma Valley Chapter of Realtors have joined forces to sponsor a joint Golf Classic on Sept. 15 at the Sonoma Golf Club. The Kiwanis have been running the valley’s oldest charity golfing event and had worked in recent years with the Sonoma Valley High School Boosters Club on a tournament held in July.
This year the Kiwanis are working with the realtors’ group, which had initiated its own tournament in 2001 and also raises money for scholarships and similar causes. The organizations got together, according to outgoing Kiwanis president Brooks Rumph, and found an opening at the golf club in mid-September.
“It was better to have the tournament later (than July),” said realtor Bob Guddee, because it allows more time for people to sign up. Guddee may be reached at 707.938.1999.
