Glen Ellen’s Benziger Family Winery is one of three California recipients honored for their commitments to wildlife protection and sustainability.
The first ever Endangered Species Coalition Champion Award for Land Stewardship honors the winery’s commitment to farming practices that promote sustainability and protects local wildlife. Other award winners include Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey for her public service in sponsoring legislation that helps landowners protect endangered species and local advocate Byron Leydecker for his stewardship of the Trinity River and its endangered fisheries.
“Not only does Benziger take steps on its own vineyards, the Benziger Family also works with other vineyards to promote sustainable, organic and biodynamic farming practices, which work with nature to bring balance to the soil. It is wonderful to be able to recognize that generosity of spirit,” Leda Huta, Executive Director of Endangered Species Coalition, said in a statement Monday.
The award will be presented Sept. 6.
