Sonoma’s Cultural and Fine Arts Commission of Sonoma will hold a mid-November reception to honor Linda Rawls, recently named 2008 Sonoma Treasure Artist of the Year.
Since 1983, the Sonoma Treasure Artist has been selected and recognized for outstanding achievement in a chosen artistic medium, including the performing, visual, theatrical, literary and craft arts. Past honorees include musician Norton Buffalo, writer M. F. K. Fisher and cartoonist Linus Maurer.
A former financial aid advisor, Rawls is best known for her work as a costume designer for the Sonoma City Opera, Sonoma Valley schools, the Sonoma Community Center, Sonoma Ballet Conservatory, Vintage House, Hootchie Doo Productions, and the 42nd Street Moon in San Francisco.
The public is invited to attend the event, which will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, 551 Broadway, Sonoma. The cost is $20 per person in advance. Reservations are necessary and will be accepted until 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12. at City Hall, No. 1 The Plaza, Sonoma CA 95476.
