Mourners say goodbye to Von Dohlen
Last Friday afternoon, friends and family members gathered in the chapel at Hanna Boys Center to say goodbye to Craig Von Dohlen. The 37 year-old Von Dohlen had been tragically shot and killed by Sheriff’s deputies during an altercation at his family’s home on Saturday, December 6.
More than 100 mourners shared their grief. The common thread throughout the funeral was Craig Von Dohlen’s love of family, his many loyal friendships, his quite, gentle nature as well as his caring attitude toward so many.
Von Dohlen was shot and killed by Sheriff’s deputies after a 911 emergency phone call from his father, John Von Dohlen Sr. On the phone, the senior Von Dohlen called his son suicidal and “high on drugs.” Deputies dispatched to the home on Napa Road were charged by a gun-wielding Von Dohlen, whom they shot in reaction to what was considered lethal force. A report issued December 11 by the Santa Rosa Police, the agency tasked with conducting an investigation, had found no fault in the deputies’ handling of the incident.
Woman found dead identified
Daniella Rossi, 34, has been identified as the woman found dead in a home in the 600 block of Second Street West in Sonoma.
Last Thursday at approximately 10:40 am, officers from the Sonoma Police Department were dispatched to the home to assist Sonoma Valley Fire Rescue Authority with a medical aid call. Instead they found Rossi’s deceased body.
Due to the condition of the body and inconsistencies in statements made by the caller, the cause of death was not readily apparent and, therefore, determined to be suspicious.
Lt. Chris Spallino of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department said that initial autopsy results revealed no obvious trauma to the body or cause of death. Final autopsy results are pending, and toxicology results are not expected for another few weeks.
According to Spallino, the investigation is not currently a homicide investigation.
Building permits now on-line
First e-Bay, Amazon and Craigslist, now the City of Sonoma joins the life-altering trend, this time offering building permits on-line.
Those interested in or seeking permits can view the permit applications as a PDF document, available on the city’s website. There, study it, and fill it out, in the leisure of one’s own time. Applications completed on-line can be printed out and then mailed or faxed to the building department.
According to the building department, this was done to make it easier for people. Out-of-state contractors will find it more convenient to fill out their applications on-line, rather than sending away for the original carbon form. People who wish to can still come in to the office and fill out the form there. The form is available on the city manager’s blog at www.sonomacity.org.
Sidewalk repair begins on Hwy 12 at Boyes
CalTrans crews will begin work on Monday, Jan. 5, on a sidewalk repair project along Boyes Boulevard. The work will be completed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and will continue through Friday, Jan. 9. Travelers are advised of a traffic shift that may occur to keep one lane open in each direction, eliminating the center turn lane during the repair. It should be noted that the work will be noisy and may cause minor inconveniences. Five-minute traffic delays are estimated in both directions.
