Above and beyond

Editor: There are times when we enjoy being reminded what a great town we live in and how much people care. Recently, our much-loved elderly cat, Olivia (who pretty much ran the household) suffered a stroke and passed away. Not only did we receive the usual caring, professional help from Arroyo Veterinary Hospital, but in the mail today came a letter from the Center for Companion Animal Health at UC Davis advising us that Arroyo has made a financial donation in Olivia’s memory. What a wonderful gesture to make and such an appropriate way tot honor a beloved pet.
Our thanks to Dr. Deanna Schwab and the entire staff at Arroyo; they helped make a difficult time just a bit easier.

More dances!

Editor: I’m currently a freshman at Justin-Siena High School in Napa. Even though I attend school in the Napa County, I’m still part of the Sonoma community. By living in Sonoma I spend most of my time here and I have realized that there aren’t many activities or events for teenagers. Knowing that we don’t have this opportunity or a place to go after school, we tend to get into more trouble than needed. I’m also very aware of how big this problem has been in Sonoma and in other towns and cities as well.
I have been thinking for a while now and I have come up with an idea. One of the activities we could do is have more teenage dances held at the Boys and Girls Club. I personally have gone to one those dances and it was so much fun and it kept a lot of kids off the street and out of trouble. It’s a shame though that we don’t have more of these dances.
I know money could be an issue for this event to happen but I’m sure we could work around it. Some of my ideas were people donating money, a fundraiser, or a small fee for every person that goes though the door for the dance. I know I would love to go to some dances that are open to any high school student and I’m sure other teenagers feel the same way. I also feel that paying small fees to get in wouldn’t be a problem with anyone either.
More of these dances is a great way to bring Sonoma kids together in a fun and exciting way and also could prevent young adults from getting in trouble with the law. I think many parents and citizens of Sonoma would also appreciate this as much as any high school student. Please take this idea into consideration and let the town of Sonoma know about this idea. Maybe we could actually make this happen and make a change in many teenagers’ lives by keeping them out of trouble.
Thank you so much for taking a moment out of your hectic lives and reading this. I do appreciate it and I’m sure others do as well.
