City business calls for convention
Editor: Call me old-fashioned but I believe calling our council members by their first names while in chambers and on official business is disrespectful and infers a level of familiarity not conducive to the objective process of deliberations. The city council, whether you agree with them or not, are elected by the public to conduct city business and should be accorded the respect of “Mayor Barbose,” not “Steve” and “Council member Brown,” not Ken, while conducting that business. Even if you know these folks personally, the city council meeting is serious business and should be treated as such.

Disagrees with sports field parking ordinance
Editor: Last evening, several softball players asked through our son, whether they could park in front of our house during the softball season. My son advised the players were told they would be suspended from the team if they parked on public streets near the entrance to the softball diamond at the end of Denmark Street near Brockman Lane. Of course, we said they could park in front of our house. Apparently neighbors have complained about the girls parking near the entrance to the ball field.
As you may be aware, our family has lived on Brockman Lane for nearly 20 years. The softball diamond was located near the end of Denmark well before any of the houses in our subdivision were built. Every spring the girls use the street for parking so they may practice and play games in close proximity to their vehicles. This makes it more convenient for them to lug their gear and safer as it is dark when practice ends in February and early March.
I find it apalling the girls are being forced with threat of suspension to park more than 200 yards away from the field. The neighbors have no legal right to complain, provided the players are parking lawfully. Moreover, all of the homeowners who live on Denmark near Brockman purchased their homes with full knowledge the high school was located next door and students would use the fields and the nearby streets. Please rescind this ridiculous parking requirement. Neither the high school nor the neighbors have the right or power to prevent licensed drivers to lawfully park on public streets.
Sincerely,

Successful “Road”
Thank you to high school seniors
Sonoma Valey Soroptimists who presented Road to Reality at the Veterans Memorial Building on Feb. 4 wish to extend a big thank you to all the graduating seniors who participated in the event. We congratulate all of you for your excellent consideration and behavior. Even with so many people in close quarters, there was no hustle or bustle or jostle all day – not even at the very last moment when free t-shirts were passed out in the lobby as the students were rushing out the door to catch the bus.
A fine achievement for a group of 250-plus participants.

Go Sun!
Editor: Best wishes on making the Sun enterprise a true community effort.
The Sun is going back to its original roots and that was a vibrant and powerful undertaking which got sidetracked.
I’m excited to see what comes next!
