With this issue we say goodbye to food columnist Patti Williams. Her presence as the venerable Epi has graced the pages of The Sun for a little over a year. We wish her well in her future endeavors whether it is pursuing the latest in culinary delights, working towards sustainability in her home and garden, or even catching up with vendors at the Farmers Markets. She will be missed.
But because any good wine country news outlet just isn’t complete without a solid food and wine section we are pleased to welcome a new writer to The Sun. Kristen Viguerie, the proprietor of the lovely Plaza shop, Junipero & Co., joins us as the lead voice of our food page. A foodie in her own right, Viguerie and her husband Stephen (chef at Mondo) moved to Sonoma recently from Carmel, where they owned their own successful restaurant. And even though they loved life in that charming coastal town, Sonoma continued to beckon. When a buyer appeared out of the blue with an offer to purchase their not-for-sale establishment, they jumped at the chance and to Sonoma they returned.
In her short time in Sonoma, Kristin has wasted no time making connections in both the retail and food worlds. Her shop is a cornucopia of culinary mementos and antiques, artisanal foods, cookbooks and more. She’s chosen the merchandise with a care that belies her love of good food and good times. A case in point – in one of my first conversations with the effervescent Kristin, she outwardly admitted to no hobbies other than eating. To paraphrase, she basically said, “I don’t have children and I don’t exercise — I eat.” And this from a tall, slender, back-to-nature beauty.
Kristin welcomes your food and wine news. You can reach her at foodandwine@sonomasun.com.
Kristin’s column will headline our new Sun Style section encompassing food, wine and life in the Valley and beyond. To highlight life, Kristin is joined this issue by healthy living expert, Heather Morgan. Heather has her own radio show on SUN FM 91.3 and is a frequent guest on Mornings in Sonoma with Ken Brown. In fact, it is Heather’s Healthy Living workshop that has Ken cycling and hiking and eating healthier food than he has in years. He credits his new-found knowledge and success to Heather’s teachings.
Heather combines a background as a nutrition and lifestyle coach with her own sense of healthy and clean living. She is a former college instructor and counselor and her passion for helping others came into its own when she became ill and began studying nutrition with a goal in mind to heal herself. She has since educated herself in the field of nutrition, holistic healing, weight loss and more. Her approach to life and healthy living is fun and realistic.
So, change continues here at The Sun. Watch for more as our new Sun Style section takes shape. As always, we welcome your feedback, positive or negative. It is what keeps us alive and fresh and as close to the community as we can be.
Cheers!
