The Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation donated over $365,000 to the hospital in 2010, its director proudly announced this week.
“Thanks to the generosity of the community, the foundation is able to raise significant funds each year to assist the hospital in its mission to improve, restore and maintain the health of everyone in the community,” Harmony Plenty said in a statement.
Looking at some of the larger funding initiatives, almost $33,000 was given in support of women’s health, including $11,000 to help fund mammography services for uninsured and underinsured women.
Over $77,000 was donated for Emergency Department support, including the purchase of new equipment.
“Thanks to the generosity of the foundation the hospital has received several much-needed pieces of equipment that facilitate better patient care,” said Dr. Robert Cohen, chief medical
officer.
The foundation also made possible the purchase of a portable ventilator that allows safer transfer of critical care patients from the Emergency Department, he said. Likewise a new two-way radio, for communicating with paramedics.
Plenty said that the biggest funding priority of the year was the replacement of the antiquated hospital beds with new, state-of-the-art beds. The foundation’s donation of $254,197 funded the purchase of 31 beds, 41 mattresses and 3 mattress pumps.
“Receiving the new beds has been life changing”, explained Melissa Evans, RN, Director of Nursing, SNF. “Patients can now move themselves with ease.”
Transporting patients to different areas of the hospital with the old beds was difficult, Evans said. “With the new beds, it is so much safer and more comfortable for both staff and the patient. We love the new beds and are so grateful to the Foundation.”
