New wine event to explore hidden gems

Posted on March 11, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Tickets to a new event from the Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Alliance, a tour of the Valley’s hidden gems and rarely-visited locations, have just gone on sale.

The Sonoma Valley Reserve, May 14-15, will provide an exclusive opportunity to see classic wineries in a completely new light.

The inaugural weekend is series of themed daytrips around the region. Produced by the Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Alliance, it will showcase rare offerings and hidden wonders of local wine destinations, many of which are seldom open to the public.

“We are very excited to announce a new event that makes it possible to discover some of the people, places and wines that otherwise would be impossible to experience,” said Maureen Cottingham, SVGA executive director.

The weekend will feature a schedule of themed tours that take guests on a treasure hunt throughout the appellation. Each tour includes four winery visits, transportation by California Wine Tours and a wine country picnic lunch featuring fresh local ingredients.

Additionally, on Saturday the tours end at the Sonoma Valley Reserve Marketplace where wines — many not available elsewhere — will be available for purchase. The event is sponsored by Rabobank, N.A.

Tickets are $85 for one day or $135 for two days. For tickets visit SonomaValleyWine.com or call 935.0803.
