Love rabbits, don’t eat them

Editor: I was dismayed to see that Sheana Davis’ March10 column included a chef’s recipe for rabbit stew. Those who keep rabbits as house pets know what extraordinarily gentle, loving, soulful creatures they are, deserving of a far better fate than the stew pot. I will not be patronizing the Carneros Bistro anytime soon.

Rabbit Stew? Being that I’m Irish I can remember many St. Patrick’s Day when my grandmother and mother would serve up this delicious dish. We were taught as kids that we should pick one from the litter for a pet and the rest would wind up on the table.
Your personal opinion is precious, but nothing was as astonishing as when I visited Peru and on my way through town I found my Guinea Pigs on a Stick, the thought of eating something I had as a Pet was hard the think about but when it came down to it. It’s food.
Being from an extensive military back ground I’m happy to say that I have survived, Rat, Pigeon, Wild Turkey and Lizard, Snake, Wasp Soup and so many other things that I would not have thought as a Kid that I would ever eat.
The weirdest is Balut, a tasteful surprise in an Egg.
so lets be honest, we all have nationalities that created some wonderful dishes, I know what might seem wrong to you is something another person might feel in enjoyable.
Please enjoy what ever you have…
      Happy Patty’s day
