I am not an expert in medical economics. There are, however three things I know for sure:
1. Shortly after receiving any medical service, a statement will arrive from my insurance company to the effect: your procedure was billed at $1,750, our negotiated rate with the provider is $37 and, by the way, you haven’t satisfied your deductable so it is your responsibility.
2. An independent hospital in a rural community cannot survive without some level of subsidy and passing Measure A to renew the existing parcel tax is the best way to ensure that Sonoma Valley Hospital and our all-important emergency room remain open.
3. Sonoma Valley Hospital provides 400+ full-time jobs and more than half of those employees live in our community.
A degree in economics is not required to reach a simple conclusion…we must pass Measure A. Your ballot should have already arrived in your mailbox. Please vote yes and don’t forget to return your ballot in time to be counted.
