The practice of philosophy is a way of life that results from falling in love with questions, believes Sam Keen, “those great mythic questions that can never be given definitive answers.” A shrewd and wry interpreter of propaganda, cultural myths, and the power of imagery in shaping public opinion, Keen turns his eye to the Middle East for “Iran: The Making of an Enemy,” a May 15 lecture at the Sonoma Community Center.
Keen was “overeducated” at Harvard, where he received Ph.D degrees in philosophy and theology, and has written the best selling “Fire in the Belly” and “In the Absence of God.” He co-producer the award-winning PBS documentary “Faces of the Enemy,” which was based on his book, and was himself the subject of the PBS special with Bill Moyers,” Your Mythic Journey with Sam Keen.” A grand thinker, Keen, who lives in Sonoma, also farms and practices the trapeze. The 7:30 talk is sponsored by the Praxis Peace Institute. Tickets are $15 for Praxis members, $20 general, and available at the door. 276 E. Napa St.
