Bear with me

The Bear Flag Celebration comes growling into town once again on Sunday, June 10, bringing history, a chicken barbecue, great music, art, a Micro-Brew Festival, and lots of family fun to the Sonoma Plaza.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with the unveiling of a plaque of commemorative plaque honoring 100th birthday of the Poppe-Parmalee Building on First St. East.

At 11 a.m., Grand Parlor #111 officially raises the Bear Flag. Food, art and live music with BackTrax kick off at noon.

At 1;40 p.m., it Grinstead Amphitheatre , The Bear Flag Revolt will be re-created.

The performance involves 25 volunteer actors bringing to life the complicated tale of what really happened in Sonoma on June 14, 1846.

“I’m very happy to once again bring the Bear Flag Revolt to life with my volunteer acting troupe, the Bear Flag Revolt Players” said George Webber, director and founder. “This is our eighth year in a row, and the show is both historically accurate and fun.”

Led by the famous Whisky Ray (first row, far left, in photo), black-powder specialists from Native Sons Auburn Parlor #59 promise more firepower than ever before for this Sunday’s re-enactment, Webber said.
