The school was one of five nationally to win a $10,000 grant for fresh produce, guidelines, and materials needed to set up a classroom smoothie station or “Blast Bar.” Over the course of 90 days, students will learn the importance of maximizing their intake of fresh vegetables and fruits. In the pilot program in L.A., students improved both their health – losing weight and reducing cholesterol — and their attitude toward food.
To land the grant, El Verano School, lead by Michelle Dale, submitted an application and video creatively showcasing the importance of a healthy diet and why the school should win.
