The City of Sonoma will start a 23-street pavement restoration project on Wednesday (9/23), to include brief closures during the three-day Slurry Seal part of construction.
During the Slurry Seal treatment, specific streets will need to be closed for approximately four to six hours. During the street closure, private vehicles will not be allowed to access the street either in transit or leaving their driveways.
Noticing by door hangers will be given to all affected residences and businesses 72 hours ahead of time, and parking barricades will be placed prior to no-parking restrictions, said City Engineer Dan Takasugi.

A Slurry Seal treatment is a cost effective way to preserve pavement by protecting the surface from the effects of natural aging, rain and excessive heat, Dan Takasugi said, and can extend the life of a street by five to eight years.
Many Sonoma streets, however, have deteriorated beyond a stage where a Slurry Seal can be effectively applied. Those streets will require a more costly asphalt grinding and overlay treatment, or a full street reconstruction.
A construction contract in the amount of $157,107 was awarded to Sierra Nevada Construction Inc. This project was funded primarily through Measure J Sales Tax revenue.
