“The food and wine pairing that is dearest to me is wine and bacon,” confessed Lloyd Davis, owner of Corner 103. “Because bacon makes everything taste better.”
Truer words have never been spoken, and that is why the Sonoma Valley Sun and Food & Drink Editor, Sarah Stierch are partnering with Corner 103 and Suite D to offer our first winemaker’s dinner: the Marriage of Wine and Bacon.
The concept for the dinner stemmed from a wine tasting at Corner 103.
Located in downtown Sonoma, Corner 103 takes guests on a multi-course wine and food pairing, encouraging a unique, and empowering, palette exploration experience.
Our party of wine geeks started brainstorming other fun food pairing ideas – and that is when it came up: bacon.
Where else to host this debauchery filled night of bacony goodness? Suite D, the multi-purpose event space, founded by Sondra Bernstein, proprietor of girl & the fig, the fig cafe, and now a food truck, the fig rig.
“We love bacon and wine because it’s a totally over-the-top experience of blending textures and flavors, and there’s so many ways you could go with it,” Bernstein shared.
Her team put together a menu that perfectly complements Davis’ diverse selection of Sonoma County wines – using bacon produced by the girl & the fig.
The dinner will start with a reception under the stars on Suite D’s rustic patio, pairing small bites with sparkling wine. Guests will proceed inside to experience a five course wine pairing with bacon taking the stage.
“In one dish we’ve played a rich, smoky ratatouille against a really bright Zin with nice acidity, and in another done something a little more subtle with crispy fried pork belly paired to a beautiful sparkling Rose.”
The Marriage of Food and Bacon is going to be not only delicious, but educational.
According to Davis, guests will leave feeling like a wine expert.
“Our goal is to create a fun and lively environment where guests are exposed to amazing wine and food,” he shared. “We will lead a discussion on the proper way to pair, explaining how wine and food work or don’t work together.”
This will be the first time that Davis takes his food and wine experience outside his tasting room and the first time Bernstein and her team have designed a bacon-centric dinner at Suite D.
“When you take a food that’s so delicious on its own and then pair it with these gorgeous wines, there’s no way to go wrong,” said Bernstein, “…We’re really looking forward to the event!!”
The Marriage of Wine and Bacon takes place at 6:30 on Saturday, July 16. The dinner is $85 per person with Corner 103 and Suite D Social Club Members receiving discounted ticketing. Tickets are available online at figsuited.com.
