Posted on August 28, 2016 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The 60th anniversary of Sister Cities International (SCI), the parent organization of the Sonoma Sister Cities Association (SSCA), will be marked with an informal reception on Sunday, September 11, at the Maysonnave House in Sonoma from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Wine and cheese will be served, and there is no need to RSVP.

Founded by President Eisenhower, SCI continues to make meaningful connections from citizen to citizen, community to community, around the world. The organization is established in 560 U.S. communities forming over 2,300 partnerships in 150 countries on six continents.

The first relationship formed by Sonoma Sister Cities Association was with Chambolle-Musigny, France, in 1959. To date, six other partnerships have been established: Tokaj, Hungary; Penglai, China; Aswan, Egypt; Greve, Italy; Patzcuaro, Mexico; and Kaniv; Ukraine.

According to SSCA President Farrel Beddome, “When SCI fosters international relationships on the city to city level, it helps build the expectation that a peaceful world is truly attainable.”

The Maysonnave House is located at 291 First Street East in Sonoma
