Do’s and don’ts you should know before moving

Posted on May 12, 2020 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Moving to a new place entails a lot of preparation and planning. Although this seems to be fairly simple, the whole process is quite tedious and pesky due to the amount of detail and effort you have to put in. Since this task should not be daunting as it appears to be, there are a few do’s and don’ts that you should know about to make everything run smoother before you even move into your new place.

The Do’s

Make an actual plan on paper that contains things to do, things you need to buy, and other reminders. It helps to have a sticky note or a marker with you so you can label boxes and containers. Sort your things according to specific classifications because this strategy will help you in having a sense of order. Make a schedule to follow, set goals for every day so you can pace your work, and not get overwhelmed when the set day for moving is fast approaching. One thing you need to remember is to first prepare the place you are moving into so that you can easily unload and unpack without having to clean with everything already moved in. The key to making good preparation is by having a lot of organizers while the essential thing in settling in the new place is putting up a lot of trash bags to contain all your discarded boxes and containers

The Don’ts

There are things you should not do before moving houses. Depending on your location, it is better not to make a schedule during the weekdays and busy hours. If you are living in populous cities like Los Angeles, you might get caught in heavy traffic during the weekends or the peak hours of the day. When looking for moving companies in Los Angeles, do not forget to look for insurance and license. These precursors mustn’t be forgotten because these can save you trouble if anything ever goes wrong later on. Do not skip on hiring professionals no matter how small the move can be because having them is more time and cost-efficient.

Additional Tips

In moving to new homes, it is important to embrace the change by leaving clutter and other baggage behind. This is a chance to have a fresh start, so be sure to toss away things you wouldn’t be needing anymore. It is also wise to check out the place you are moving into beforehand by getting familiar with the neighborhood and locating essential places including stores and restaurants. This will help you as you are settling down to give you a sense of familiarity already.

Moving to a new home can be stress-free if you do the preparation and planning ahead of the actual execution. You must be able to remember the things you need to do and avoid the things you shouldn’t be doing when it comes to moving. After all, a new house is a great place to start again and have a better life.
