Tuesday, July 21: Sonoma School Board will consider online-only semester

School District Superintendent Socorro Shiels will recommend to the board on July 21 a plan for online-only classes for the upcoming fall semester.

Today’s School Board meeting begins at 4pm with a closed session, and the open session starts at about 5pm.

Sheils said the plan moves from the emergency response of last semester to “an adaptive and strategic response” to the ongoing pandemic. Elements include:

  • Daily attendance will be taken
  • Defined daily instructional time with clear student schedules
  • Grade level assignments and assessments
  • Clear and frequent communication
  • Traditional grading and learning feedback
  • Care and attention to the social wellbeing of (every)  student

“Student learning, as well as the safety of all during the pandemic, are non-negotiable for Sonoma Valley Unified School District,” Shiels said.

The Board will consider the recommendation on July 21, and may hold an additional meeting on July 28 for a final vote.
