Sonoma Valley School notes

Shawna Hettrich, Sonoma Valley High School vice principal, shows off new Dragon gear (note the mascot-logo face mask) on the school’s recent Distribution Day, as every student received a box of free supplies to aid online learning. The stash included everything from graph paper and pencils to calculators and protractors, part of a district-wide program created in partnership with The Sonoma Valley Education Foundation, Sonoma Valley Community Health Center, and La Luz.  The drive-up, walk-through event mixed in a booster raffle, textbook pick-ups, and some valuable social (properly distanced) interaction for the teens.

Sonoma Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) offers families and staff access to non-emergency emotional and mental health support in two ways. You can call 707.234-7379 and request a referral form to get help from a school counselor, psychologist, social worker, or mental health clinician. Or, thanks to a new partnership with an organization called Care Solace, you can find support services outside of the district. They have representatives on call 24/7 to refer you to the appropriate outside professionals. You can call Care Solace at 888.515.0595 and receive help from someone in your own language.

_______

For non-emergency medical questions and health support, SVUSD district nurses and health staff are also available to answer questions and connect families to medical resources in the community – families can email [email protected] or call 707-200-8127.

_______

SVUSD students are automatically enrolled in the Student One Card from the Sonoma County Library; their student ID number is their account number. They can access online resources 24/7 at sonomalibrary.org. Free online tutoring is also available through tutor.com.

To provide opportunities for teachers to connect and network with other teachers in similar grade levels from other schools across Sonoma County, The Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE) is launching Digital Teacher Meetups. They will take place every other week and will provide an opportunity to come together remotely to share successes, struggles, and promising practices and help each other navigate the uncharted path educators now find themselves on. Members of SCOE’s Educational Support Services Department will host the meetups, but content and topics will be driven by participating teachers.
