Sassy! Barbie stuns with ‘trashion show’

Posted on November 10, 2020 by Sonoma Valley Sun

How tall is high fashion? Today, for a virtual Trashion Fashion show of glam Barbies, about a foot.

Sonoma Community Center’s Trashion Fashion, always a visual treat, moves its creative efforts online this year with two live-stream events. What’s Trashion? Garments made from recycled items and salvaged clothes, designed and handmade by community members who turn trash into treasure.

The 10th annual fundraiser kicks off with the “BARBIE: Reclaimed & Reinvented” virtual gallery show – 50 dolls that were saved from the landfills and turned into fashion art – on Saturday, November 14th from 11 a.m. to noon. The petite divas will then be sold off via week-long digital auction.

Barbie, still stunning at age 62, works it Sonoma Valley style. At 11.5 inches tall, her figure projects to a height of 5 feet 9 inches with measurements of 36 inches (chest), 18 inches (waist) and 33 inches (hips).

Another fresh (and freshly brewed) look for the demi-Diva

On November 21, it’s the Trashion Fashion Runway Show, a showcase of hot-mess haute couture, starting at 4 p.m.

“Since Trashion isn’t an indoor event this year, we decided to take these wonderful outfits and film them in various different locales throughout town,” says the Center’s Eric Jackson. “So now the show has also become a love letter to Sonoma.”

The Runway Show broadcast will include pre-recorded material shot on location in Sonoma combined with commentary and reactions provided by returning Master of Ceremonies, Gary Saperstein, and a panel of judges. Prizes will be awarded during the show in multiple categories, and votes will be collected from viewers for the “People’s Choice Award.”

Trashion Fashion Sonoma is sponsored and partnered by Republic of Thrift, Recology, Chateau Sonoma, Cornerstone Sonoma, Sweet Scoops, Bon Marche, The Church Mouse, and the City of Sonoma.

The shows are free, but registration is required at TrashionFashionSonoma.org.
