The Sonoma Community Center will host The Great Pumpkin Party on Thursday, October 28, with crafts, music, refreshments, and a carved pumpkin contest.
The outdoor free get-together is 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Attendees are invited to bring their already carved and/or decorated pumpkins to be entered into the Pumpkin Contest. Awards will be given that evening in multiple categories including judges favorites in the Youth and Adult Categories, as well as “Most Creative,” and “Scariest Pumpkin.” All entered pumpkins will be on display throughout the party.
Seasonally appropriate refreshments will be available to purchase and the entertainment will include classic Halloween music and the opportunity to view the Peanuts classic 1966 Halloween special, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
For those who would like to try their hand at something creative at the event, the Center will house crafting stations for participants of all ages to decorate a provided small gourd or pumpkin, a blank face mask, or a Halloween eye mask.
Community members will also have the chance to participate in a communal art project by decorating a large seasonal pumpkin together.
“I love that the community has an official destination for all their Fall and Halloween seasonal celebrations,” said Eric Jackson, Creative Programs Manager of Sonoma Community Center. “Just like our November 1 Public Altar Lighting Ceremony, this Pumpkin Party gives us a chance to safely come together and commemorate the changing of our seasons in a festive new way.”
Because materials and supplies will be provided on a first come, first serve basis, it is recommended that attendees arrive by the start time to enjoy the full experience. While costumes are not required, any and all types of festive wear and make-up are encouraged.
