Jazzin’ it up at ArtNight

Posted on July 21, 2022 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Sonoma Valley Museum of Art hosts a gallery night of music, art, food & cocktails, inspired by SVMA’s current exhibition: Dancing with Charlie: Bay Area Art from the Campbell Collection. The celebration of San Francisco Jazz & Art starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 30.

Charles Campbell was a San Francisco gallery owner who represented major Bay Area contemporary artists for more than 60 years, including Wayne Thiebaud.

Providing the main entertainment is  A Band for All Seasons—a group formed especially for this event—with members Roy Blumenfeld (above; The Blues Project, Seatrain), Richard Olsen (The Charlatans, Richard Olsen Big Band), vocalist Joni Maxx, Paul Robinson and Paul Smith (Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks), and Jef Labes (Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison bands). They will take us on a journey through the evolution of jazz during Charlie Campbell’s lifetime starting with his love of the Charleston, to Lindy Hop and Swing, to the sounds that poured out the doorways of all the hippest jazz clubs in North Beach.

The evening features a cocktail/appetizer bar outside and art-making tables inside. Come attired inspired by your favorite jazz era or craft your jazz age look on the spot!.

6 p.m. $35-$40, must be reserved by 7/29. Svma.org.
