A proto-punk hero from the early days with the Modern Lovers, the dynamic songwriter Jonathan Richman has covered diverse ground since then. But don’t expect any old stuff, he says. “Many singers my age do a retrospective; this show is not like that. It’s mostly stuff made up in the last 3 and 4 years.” A relentless spontaneity (there’s no set list) spotlights his inventiveness.
Richman, wrote the Nashville Scene, “has spent decades removing barriers between himself and his audience, cultivating an intimacy that is almost extinct in modern music.”
