Rethinking the human order

Posted on May 9, 2023 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Building an ecological and sustainable civilization is the topic when two leading thinkers in the environmental movement come to Sonoma for a May 13 lecture. Praxis Peace Institute present Andrew Kimbrell and Randy Hayes at the Sonoma Community Center’s Secret Garden at 1pm.

Randy Hayes, dubbed “an environmental pit bull. By the Wall Street Journal, was the founder and executive director of Rainforest Action Network. Today, he works in Washington DC with Andrew Kimbrell and Brent Blackwelder, in Foundation Earth, a think tank where he is the executive director.

Hayes served five years as President of the City of San Francisco Commission on the Environment, and for two-and-a-half years as director of sustainability in the office of Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown. He holds a Masters degree in Environmental Planning from San Francisco State University, and he was one of the original set of inductees in the National Environmental Hall of Fame.

Andrew Kimbrell is a public interest attorney and author, as well as an advocate for sustainable agriculture and an opponent of industrial agriculture. He is the founder and executive director of the Center for Food Safety and the co-founder of Foundation Earth.

As an attorney, Kimbrell has successfully challenged federal agencies in several historic court cases. He initiated the court challenge that resulted in a U.S. Supreme Court victory forcing, for the first time, EPA regulation of greenhouse gases and their impact on climate change. Named by Utne Reader as one of the world’s leading 100 visionaries, his written works include The Masculine Mystique

Live outdoor event on Saturday, May 13, 1pm, Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa St. in the Secret Garden. Tickets $20-$25. Event with reception $45-$50.  www.praxispeace.org
