Free ECG/EKG youth testing

Posted on July 8, 2023 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Sudden Cardiac Arrest claims the lives of thousands of seemingly healthy kids every year. On Saturday, July 15, the Just1mike Foundation stages a free testing for ages 12-25 conducted by medical professionals and read by physicians. 10am to 4pm. Hanna Center, 17000 Arnold Dr.

An ECG/EKG can help detect 85-90% of heart conditions that lead to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). The test is free but registration is required.

SCA claims the lives of thousands seemingly healthy kids every year and is the leading cause of death for student-athletes and on school campuses. An electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) is fast, non-invasive and painless. A standard well-being exam or sports physical is less than 1% effective at detecting any heart conditions. Adding an ECG/EKG improves those odds to 85-90%.

“One in 300 youth are at risk for an undiagnosed heart condition which makes these screening days, life-saving days for some families,” said Kristy Brindley, president of just1mike, hosting the event with the Kyle J. Taylor Foundation and Who We Play For. These three foundations honor the lives of Michael (16), Kyle (18) and Rafe (15) all who lost their young lives to sudden cardiac arrest.

“Together we work to ensure that other families, teams and communities will never know this pain,” said Brindley.
