A mosh pit for Mozart

Posted on September 13, 2023 by Sonoma Valley Sun

An adventurous rock orchestra with symphony-grade string players (that’s Rebecca Roudman of the band Dirty Cello), the Renegade Orchestra delivers “the beauty of a symphony, the soul of a rock band.” The troupe swings from Hendrix to Metallica, with a bit of ragtime, gypsy jazz and more thrown in.

“All of the musicians are amazing at what they do, but instead of confining them to what is written in the music, we turn them loose to improvise and rock out,” says Roudman. Dueling violins, players among the audience, and other flourishes add to the mold-breaking evening.

Saturday, September 23. 7:30pm. $25. Sebastiani Theatre. Sebastianitheatre.com.
