Alex Cole exhibition opens Jan. 19

Posted on January 15, 2024 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Sonoma artist Alex Cole will exhibit her new work in Gallery 212 at the Sonoma Community Center. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, January 19.

Cole started her career in the arts at the Center and is giving back by bringing a collection of her beautiful landscape and abstract paintings to benefit the Center. A special piece from the collection will be made into a series of limited edition prints for sale with 100% of the proceeds to support ongoing art programming and community scholarships. All original pieces will also be available for purchase with a percentage of the sale to support the Center.

Cole received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. After graduating in 1995, she continued painting and began to exhibit work in galleries and art spaces on the East Coast. Moving to Sonoma in 1997, Cole began working in art administration and teaching at the Sonoma Community Center. She taught art classes to young and old and became the Fine Arts Director, hiring nationally known artists to teach workshops and conduct guest lectures at the Center. During this time she found a love of teaching.

“The most inspiring time of teaching was encouraging artist and non-artist alike to find the fun in letting go, unplugging, and tapping into their creative selves,” Cole shared.

A full-time artist, Cole’s work is in collections throughout the US and worldwide.  Locally, her work can be found at Artefact Design & Salvage, JakW, and The Loop. Her public art projects are flanking Fourth Street in Santa Rosa and a large-scale mural at Keller Street CoWork in Petaluma.

She has been featured in two books: “Wild Lands” and “Artists of the Bay Area” by Jen Tough, Sonoma Magazine, Beautiful Home, Rue Magazine, and more. Recently she has become a featured artist for Pottery Barn’s original art collections.

“We are thrilled to have Alex return to the Center to share her work with our community. Her expressive paintings reflect the natural beauty of Sonoma and her deep connection to the Center makes her show a truly special event. We are grateful for her support!” said Vanessa Glamore Rognlien, Sonoma Community Center’s Executive Director.

The opening reception for Alex Cole’s show in Gallery 212 is open to the community and will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The show will run through February 11, 2024, open daily from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. at 276 East Napa Street in Sonoma.
