CANCELED

This event has been canceled due to Covid.

It’s been more than 10 years since Sonoma City Opera closed its doors, but composer
and Sonoma resident John Partridge is going to bring opera back to Sonoma this June.
Partridge’s original opera The Passion of Joan of Arc will be presented outdoors at
Trinity Episcopal Church for five performances June 21-22 and June 28-30. All shows
start at 4:00 pm.
“The opera covers the period of Joan’s trial and execution,” Partridge explains. “It’s a
very powerful, dramatic story.” He recommends audience members be at least 13.
Partridge, a composer, conductor, arranger and performer, is well known in local
musical and theater circles. His works cover a wide range of genres, including a Lenten
cantata, jazz cantata, ragtime tunes, anti-war Mass, oratorio, concerto, musical theater,
and opera. He has served as Music Director for many productions at Sonoma Arts Live
and conducts the Sonoma Hometown Band.
Director Aimee Greenberg is an award-winning veteran theatre artist, whose works
have been performed worldwide. She is a writer, performer, director, and educator who
has taught performance technique, writing, directing, theatre and film studies at
international conservatories and universities. For this project, Greenberg promises a
creative site-specific use of the church and outdoor settings, resulting in an immersive
theater experience.
The creative team for the opera also includes choreographer/intimacy coach Lissa
Ferreira and costumer Barbie Hoffmann.
The church is located at 275 East Spain Street, just a few blocks down from Sonoma
square. Parking will be available both on the street and in the church parking lot.
