Regarding your November 21 editor’s letter: Is CEO compensation too high? Perhaps, but should government interfere to lower it? That can be debated. What is more difficult to debate is whether high CEO compensation directly contributes to employee inequality.
Consider that the average Fortune 500 Company employs 30,000 people, and the average CEO compensation for those same companies is $16 million. If these CEOs were to completely forgo their pay and divide it up among their employees, each would receive a whopping $533.33, hardly enough to buy a sandwich for lunch once a week.
