Back (mostly) to school

Sonoma students in grades Transitional Kindergarten through 2nd grade started back to part-time, in-person school on Monday. Next week, the elementary schools will welcome back students in 3rd through 5th grades.

Under the new Hybrid plan, students are at school in the morning from 8:20 until 10:45, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Then another 2 ¼ hours is devoted to distance learning from home. On Wednesdays, all students are learning independently from home for 3 ½ to 4 hours and do a check-in with their teacher.

Some families have chosen to continue with distance learning exclusively. Elementary teachers will work remotely with their distance-learning students in the afternoons. Secondary teachers will simulcast their lessons for the benefit of their at-home students.

Middle school and high school students will also start back up on April 6 with part-time in-person learning. There will be two cohorts, one coming to school from 9 to 12 on Monday and Tuesday, the other group coming in to school Thursday and Friday. (Students with zero period classes will begin at 7:20.) They will be doing learning online in the afternoon. As with the elementary students, Wednesdays are reserved for independent study from home, with teacher check-in.
