Malware attack brings down Sonoma Valley Sun’s website and 1,000s more

You may have noticed that our website was not online yesterday. It, and thousands of other websites were down due to a Malware attack on the hosting company Liquid Web (formerly Rackspace Cloud).

The internet is increasingly vulnerable to these kinds of attacks, as hackers develop new Malware (programs that “infect” and compromise the workings of web servers). It took a full 24 hours for Liquid Web to rebuild their system so that websites return to their customary level of service. There’s no guarantee that it won’t happen again, but that’s the nature of our technology-based communication networks.

While there was nothing we could do, we nonetheless apologize for the interruption.
