Duck pond to
reopen April 8
The duck pond on Sonoma’s plaza is due to reopen on April 8, said city councilman Ken Brown. The city spent roughly $700,000 in redevelopment money to fix up the landmark pond, which was constructed by Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps workers. Improvements to the pond include a filtration system to help remove duck and goose waste from the pond’s water, which empties via a storm drain into a nearby stream. Final touches underway at the new pond include installing little ladder-like piles of rocks so that ducks can enter and exit the pond, Brown said.

County closes
batting cages
Sonoma County has shut down the batting cages at Down on the Farm Sports at 1777 Watmaugh Rd. County officials reportedly said that the area wasn’t zoned for batting cages. However, if Down on the Farm Sports wanted to put in a golf driving range, county officials said that would be OK because the land’s agricultural zoning allows that.
