Sonoma County’s Valley of the Moon Children’s Home for neglected and abused children is a step closer to fruition
Earlier this week crews began work on a $24.8 million, 25,500-square-foot building that will include a toddler wing, a medical wing with dental and mental health facilities, space for group counseling and a visiting area.
It will also house the Redwood Children’s Center for sexually abused children,
The facility will be located east of the $11 million housing and dining room building that was completed two years ago.
A groundbreaking ceremony on Monday marked the beginning of the final phase of the project, a public and private partnership between the Valley of the Moon Children’s Foundation and Sonoma County launched in 1997.
According to the foundation, once this project is completed, the partnership will focus on expanded support services for the children, specifically in four key areas: continued supplemental support for the home; support of emancipated children (including education, housing and employment guidance; support for children in foster care and foster parents; and community child abuse prevention.
