New communications equipment for local firefighters

The Valley of the Moon Firefighters Association has received a $10,000 grant to purchase voice amplifiers—a communications device attached to their oxygen masks that allows firefighters to talk back and forth during a fire. The grant comes from Unique Insurance Services (Agent Linda Huddleston) and the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. “It is a privilege for us to partner with our community by supporting and honoring our firefighters,” said Huddleston.
The firefighters hope to buy 30 or more amplifiers with the grant, according to Fire Captain Tom Deely. “These amplifiers not only keep our firefighters safer but also aid in the rescue efforts. Ultimately, it makes the community safer by better enabling us to do our job.”
The Valley’s local firefighters have continuing equipment needs and will hold a wine and beer benefit reception at 5 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 25 at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First Street West. Don and Sons is providing the wine, and the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley will provide the appetizers. Following the silent auction and announcement of raffle prizes is a screening of “Into the Fire,” the critically acclaimed documentary by Academy Award winner Bill Couturie.
