That’s what Fernando [last name withheld] learned a week ago. The 14-year-old was walking the three blocks from his family’s residence to Altimira Middle School. According to his sister, he was knocked to the ground by a car while he was crossing Railroad Avenue at El Dorado Drive, one block north of Boyes Boulevard.
The woman driving the car waited with Fernando until the ambulance arrived. The young man was taken to the hospital, where his injuries were assessed: lots of bruises and a few scrapes. He was released about 3 p.m. that afternoon.
